BOYS BRIGADE BAHAMAS
Established in 1909, the Boys Brigade is the oldest Uniformed Christian Youth Organization in The Bahamas.
Our Program
Our Boys' Brigade program is based on the four pillars of development derived from
Luke 2:52: "And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature and in favor with God and man."
Academic Development
Academic development in young men is key to their growth and future success. Providing them with the necessary tools and resources to excel academically can have a significant impact on their personal and professional lives. By fostering a love for learning and encouraging them to pursue their passions, we can help shape the next generation of leaders and innovators.
Physical
Development
Physical development plays a vital role in the growth and overall well-being of young men. Engaging in regular physical activity not only helps to build strength and endurance, but also promotes healthy bone density and reduces the risk of chronic disease. Encouraging young men to prioritize their physical health can lead to a lifetime of benefits.
Spiritual
Development
Christian development in young boys is a crucial aspect of their growth and character formation. It involves instilling values such as love, kindness, and respect for others, as well as teaching them to have a personal relationship with God. By nurturing their faith, young boys can develop into responsible and compassionate men who make a positive impact on the world around them.
Social
Development
Developing social skills helps boys to build relationships, develop communication skills, and learn how to navigate social situations. By fostering social development, young men can gain confidence, build self-esteem, and develop a sense of belonging within their communities.
"Train up a child in the way he should go: And when he is old, he will not depart from it." Proverbs 22:6
The Tradition, The Object
& The Method
The Motto
Sure & Stedfast is taken from Hebrews 6:19. The biblical spelling of stedfast has been retained as found in the King James Version.
The Emblem
The emblem was originally an anchor. Like the motto, it stems from the verse “which hope we have as an anchor of the soul…”(Hebrews 6:19). With the union of The Boys‟ Brigade and The Boys‟ Life Brigade in 1926, a red cross was added to the anchor.
The Object
The object of The Boys' Brigade shall be the advancement of Christ’s Kingdom among Boys and Girls and the promotion of habits of Obedience, Reverence, Discipline, Self-Respect and all that tends towards a true Christia manliness. The text of this object has remained the same since the beginning, with the addition of the word obedience in 1893 and also the inclusion of Girls as members of the Brigade.
The Prayer
Bless, O God, The Boys' Brigade, and give to it greater power to advance Thy Kingdom throughout the world. Grant in Thy mercy that every Member, past and present, may prove steadfast in their fight against evil, and true in their allegiance to Thee. Help us in times of temptation; make us strong where we are weak; give us courage in difficulty; faithfulness in duty; loyalty in friendship; and finally, by Thy mercy, bring us into Thine everlasting Kingdom, through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.
The Method
The method of achieving the object of the Boys' Brigade is by providing a meaningful and enjoyable program of educational, physical, social, and spiritual interests, based on the “twin pillars” of Christian Faith and Discipline and guided by Christian adult leaders as officers.
